Dr. Al Münzer Holocaust Child Survivor Speaks with CadetsDr. Al Münzer, a child survivor of the Holocaust, spoke to a group of cadets and faculty from multiple disciplines about his experiences during the Holocaust. Brought to West Point to speak in Dr. David Frey's "The Holocaust and Its Legacy" course, Dr. Münzer explained how he was rescued by an Indonesian family and hidden for two years in occupied Holland. His mother and sisters were all deported to Auschwitz, and his father sent to other camps. Only he and his mother survived the war. Dr. Münzer, a retired Internist and Pulmonologist, spoke of how his experience of being taken in by Dutch Indonesians who had nothing to gain and everything to lose, was a direct refutation of the Nazi racist worldview, and has inspired him to spread a message of humanity's capacity for good. Dr. Münzer also took part in West Point's Day of Remembrance Commemoration. Dr. Michael Geheran in the Department of History coordinated his visit.
