Climbing in the Shawagunks Mountain Range

The Army West Point Climbing Club took eight cadets to the Shawagunks Mountain Range in New Paltz, NY, to participate in a day of out-door climbing. Cadets on the trip included four team members who had joined the club this year and had never been outdoor Trad Climbing before CDT Jack Roche '19 conducted his first multi-pitch lead climb on the ridge as well as four other cadets that followed other members for the first time on a multi-pitch route. Utilizing traditional climbing systems, placing gear and building anchors, Roche practiced proper safety gear placement in preparation for his upcoming first multi-pitch lead climb. Later, team members caught back up for lunch and discussed future climbing goals.
