Radio Club Supports the 60th Jamboree-on-the-AirThe Cadet Amateur Radio Club Cadet-in-Charge (CIC) Jonathan Morton ’18, Officer-in-Charge (OIC) CPT(P) Sherburne, and Assistant OIC LTC Hamilton supported the world-wide scouting movement’s 60th annual Jamboree-on-the-Air at their ground station located in Bartlett Hall. This Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) outreach was organized by Scout Sean Flynn and his mother Deborah Flynn. Ten Boy Scouts from Troops as far away as Bridgeport, Connecticut earned their radio merit badges as a direct result of their hard work making contacts with amateur radio operators from around the world. The Scouts had the opportunity to speak with operators in Italy and Germany and US-based operators in South Dakota, Montana, Ohio, Indiana, Missouri, Tennessee, Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, and New York. Thanks to LTC Eslinger and CPT(P) Davis for allowing use of their classrooms for the radio merit badge instruction. Mr. Gironda volunteered his time as a radio merit badge counselor so that all scouts could receive their badges by the end of the event.
